Here’s How The Birth by Faith Challenge Works
Step 1 > Know that you are doing God’s Work
Genesis 1:28 says “God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” - Creating a life and bringing it into this world is exactly what God created you to do!
Step 2 > Understand that there may be pain, but you can minimize (and even eliminate) pain by eliminating fear.
Deut 31:6 says "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." – Have peace knowing you are equipped with built-in pain management (hello hormones!), hands-on comfort measures you’ll learn in this challenge, and the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit, who is our Comforter. Learn techniques to manage discomfort throughout labor, and overcome the fear of pain.
Step 3 > Build the advocacy skills and support team that will help you first and foremost!
Jer 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future.” – Overcome the fear of isolation with the assurance that God’s plan for you is perfect. Build the skills you need to speak up for yourself alongside the support team that will also speak up for the things you desire during your birth experience.
Step 4 > Learn to trust God with all the unknowns in birth.
Isaiah 41:10 says “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my righteous right hand.” – Overcome the fear of all the things you can’t control and know you are in the hands of the One who can.
Step 5 > Prepare to use this same process of breaking fear and building faith to all the throes of motherhood.
Mar 5:36 says “Do not be afraid; only believe.” – Those are Jesus’s words to the father whose daughter had just died. Those are God’s words to you every time fear comes around to steal your joy. I am going to encourage you that in whatever challenge you face, your salvation is guaranteed by His grace and through your faith.

What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional that provides emotional, instructional, educational, and physical support and comfort to you during your pregnancy, labor, and delivery. A doula teaches you calming methods to ease discomfort during labor and help you achieve a positive birth experience as you define it. An in-person Doula experience includes comforting touch, position changes, breathing exercises, meditation, etc.
Research shows using a doula can:
✔️ Decrease the need for medical interventions
✔️ Reduce the risk of c-section
✔️ Reduce the possibility of an unpleasant birth experience
✔️ Reduce the risk of complications for the baby after birth
✔️ Increase the chance of a positive birth experience
Why Use A Doula?
If you want to be in the best shape of your life, you hire a trainer who is in good shape. You may also look up reviews to see their success in helping others achieve their weight loss goals too. A doula is the labor coach that helps to improve your odds of having the best birth experience, as you define it. Depending on where and with whom you give birth, the difficulty in achieving the natural birth you desire can vary. Let’s take a look at a couple of different scenarios.
Hospital Delivery: Labor & delivery nurses on staff at a hospital are incredible men and women. However, they have multiple patients and mountains of charting to do. As much as they would love to give you undivided attention, they are unable to do so. Sadly, this also means they aren’t there to answer any questions that come up without you pushing the button, calling the nurse's station, and waiting 5-15 minutes for an answer. It also means that they don’t have the time to help you when you are uncomfortable every 2-4 minutes when a contraction comes. The quickest, easiest, and often first thing they do is offer medication. In my experience, you are provided limited information needed to get you through to delivery. Then postpartum they move you to a different part of the hospital where you will get an entirely different nurse, losing any rapport you built with the previous one. Overall, a hospital delivery is not a personal and intimate experience, unless you take the proactive steps to make it so.
Home Birth without a Doula: While your body is truly equipped with everything you need to get through childbirth, it can be a very scary thing if you are unprepared. If you are a first-time mom, you honestly aren’t sure what to expect. You don’t know what childbirth feels like, what the signs are, and what to do to cope with contractions. With a midwife to ensure medical care is covered in a home birth, you can ensure any health risks to you and your baby are monitored. However, a homebirth does not offer the immediate pain relief medications the hospital does. How will you cope with natural physiological birth at home?
Birthing with a Doula:
Depending on what you need, a Doula is close by (through phone/computer or physical presence) throughout your pregnancy, labor, and post-partum journey. She can guide you through the whole process, making this experience one you will always treasure. A doula can comfort you when you worry, pray with you through the pain, answer your questions when you are unsure, breathe with you through contractions, advocate for you when you need a voice, and empower you when you feel weak.
So many women have the experience of “I got through it”, “I am glad that’s over”, or “I never want to do this again”, and it breaks my heart. Pregnancy and Labor are such a blessing and truly a beautiful adventure. Doulas are here to make this journey joyous for you and your family.
